Tempting fate of catching a cold

This week I’ve attended so many conventions and events that my head is still reeling. Or that could be because I’m coming down with a cold. Hopefully not, but as I start to feel the scratch in my throat, I realize that I have been tempting the sick gods by attending so many events.

The issue isn’t attending events. But I forgot to be on my best, try not to get sick behavior. Typically I will make sure I’m careful about shaking people’s hands. I wash my hands more often during conventions too. But because I was so busy and it wasn’t an anime or game convention, I totally forgot my con rules.

Hopefully I won’t get any worse. I have a ton of writing to do from said events and lots of games to play for review. So much to do that I don’t have time for a cold. lol

Have a great Halloween! I might post pictures after if I end up going out.

Hello Kitty Three Apples Exhibit

HK_Balloon-300x225

I’m so excited because this week the Hello Kitty Three Apples Exhibit opens up at Royal/T in Culver City. Royal/T is a great space that has a store, restaurant, and art exhibit. The whole place is going to be turned into a Hello Kitty celebration for her 35th Anniversary on November 1.

Yes, I can criticize a company for using all pink and then in the next post admit that a silent kitty with a red bow in her hair makes me incredibly happy. I think it’s a part of my childhood that I don’t want to let go because whenever I have something Hello Kitty around, it makes me happy.

The plan was to go early Friday to the exhibit when it opens, but I just got an invite today to attend the press event tomorrow night! I can’t wait! My write up will be on GamingAngels.com Friday. The trouble with pink

Earlier today I received an email from NewEgg.com. The email was a holiday guide heads-up about products they offer for women. While glancing over the list, instantly I felt offended. All the products were pink and half had to do with cooking. What kindof tech list is this? Why are all the products displayed in pink?

If it was a Breast Cancer Research fundraiser listing then I would understand. But it’s ridiculous to send off a pr email that lists products for women and not show a variety of colors. Every item could be bought in pink, but the list itself should not display every item as pink. In doing so, you are saying that we know you are shopping for women, we think all women love pink. Which is just not true.

While some people may feel there is no harm in displaying all pink products. The problem is not the pink product, the problem is the thought process behind it. If we make it in pink, then women will find it more attractive. That thought process should end. Tech companies need to be challenged in how they reach out to women. Talk to us about the product. Make a great product. Those are reasons to buy a product. Not just because of the color it comes in.

Veronica Belmont received the same email and decided to post about it. Her and many other women were insulted by the list.

I wrote NewEgg and explained to them my reasons for being offended. In hopes that they will understand that next time, maybe they should vary up the colors abit. Here is his response:

Sorry you found the list insulting. I understand where you are coming from and apologize. We were actually trying to put together a list to let people know Newegg has MORE to offer than just great tech hardware. Most of these products are available in a variety of colors, like the DSi and the Samsung.

On second look, perhaps we did go a bit pink-happy though. Totally unintentional!

As for the other tech products, tis the season. We’ll get you plenty of other gift guide pitches in the coming months if you’re still interested.

Sorry again

It was great that he responded and did seem genuinely regretful for the choice of going with all pink. We’ll have to watch for the next one!

Still busy and loving every minute of it

I’ve been applying to 7 or 8 jobs a day again. Luckily there are jobs to apply to, but I’m not getting called for many. Or they are taking their time. The last couple of jobs I’ve interviewed for have gone 5-8 rounds of interview. Getting to that last two spot but never getting picked. But I’m determined that the job that I’m going to love is out there and just waiting to meet me.

In the meantime, I’m busy with conferences, demos and just having fun. Living life and enjoying every minute of it.
