and we’re only getting started

Actually GamingAngels.com has been around for four years and we’re in the middle of our fifth year. We have an amazing volunteer staff of 13 wonderful women and are setting records in terms of hits and uniques.

Today we were sourced in an article on Mashable. Which made me so excited! We weren’t mentioned by name, but were linked. Over the weekend, while everyone wrote positively about an Xbox Live iphone app, I wrote about using caution. I don’t think it’s right to have to give any app your Xbox 360 login info when they are basically screen-capping Xbox.com and only need your gamertag. It’s great to see that post get some recognition.

I really hope to do more original content. It’s my hope that GA is maturing and with that so is our writing and topics. We’ll see! I sent out some questions for another article tonight.

Now to get some gameplay in. Time to relax and unwind!

Movie night

Today I worked on GamingAngels all day. I wrote two news articles, finally wrote an interview piece that I’ve been sitting on and played some of the Modern Warfare 2 single player campaign.

Otherwise, it’s been movie weekend. Last night we watched the Last Starfighter in HD. Today it’s been Blazing Saddles, Total Recall, and now Fight Club.

Tomorrow a friend is coming over which is cool but the apartment is a wreck. I’m hoping to get more gameplay in. Hope this week brings some good news on the job front. For the first time in a long time, I have an empty schedule. It could be because of Thanksgiving (which I keep forgetting about). Which means family time, but I’m hoping it will mean some relaxing, get away from the laptop time. Not that I don’t love being connected and I’m pretty much addicted to Twitter, but I really do need to disconnect more. Or at least sometimes. I need to enjoy the sun, go for walks and workout. I haven’t kicked in my workouts yet. But I have been eating better. I definitely see some progress from eating healthier.

In other news, I got great news about my dad. Cancer is some scary shit and I don’t want anyone I love to get it.

Times are hard and may only get worse

It’s tough right now out there. I keep hearing reports that things will get better, but they don’t seem to be. I’ve been called for fewer and fewer interviews. There seem to be fewer jobs posted. The holidays are about the worst time anyone could be looking for a job as it is, but in a bad economy, it’s almost impossible.

For those that may not know, I’ve been unemployed since February. Part of why it’s taken me so long to get a new job is I am applying to jobs that aren’t strictly IT anymore. I have found through my work that I really enjoy interacting with people. Now I’m looking for positions as an interactive web producer, project manager, or community manager.

It’s hard to stick to wanting to find something you’ll enjoy and/or find a company that you want to work hard for. I’m enjoying GamingAngels, but I have to start earning money. Things are slim and it’s not going to get better. I heard a report last night that job losses will continue to happen through all of 2010 and that companies are not going to be hiring.

It’s all very discouraging. I want to be creative, I want to work hard, and yet…nothing seems to be out there. But I’m going to keep my spirits up and keep applying. Going to work hard on just keeping things going and working smarter.

Tomorrow I get to interview Jillian Michaels. Cool huh?

Testing updates

It’s pretty funny because modules that I’m unsure of, I test here on my website before adding to GamingAngels.com. Today I installed Intense Debate because I’m considering adding it to GamingAngels. I like that users can use their twitter, facebook or openID to leave a comment. I just want to make sure that WordPress users can use their login to make a comment without having to join Intense debate. So we’re not moving definitely just yet.

If anyone has positive or negative experience with Intense Debate let me know!

As a side note…LET’S GO VIKINGS! We’re currently ahead of the lions!

My forgotten area of the world

I have totally forgotten about this area of the world. Things have been really busy and I’m really just trying to get caught up on my GamingAngels work. Hopefully I can get back to this blog after this weekend.
