Who knew shopping for China would be so much fun?

Today we went to our first registry appointment to see what that experience is like. I understand Matt’s argument that we should just register online in our apartment, but I wanted to experience what it’s like to carry that scan gun around. There’s also the question as to whether we’d agree or have the same tastes in household items. Yes, we’ve been living together for a few years, but most of our stuff is older and from what we brought into the relationship.

So imagine my surprise when Matt picks out the China that I totally love and which I thought would be too girly for him. It’s not that it has flowers or pearls or other weird patterns, but it does have a very delicate bow line around it. We also agreed on silverware, kitchen appliances, and bedding stuff. It’s pretty cool.

The experience of scanning at Macys is probably over-rated. We should have waited for an event where you have champagne. I was told they always do that which is not true. Or at least not at the Beverly Center. We were given a scan gun, some paper, a pen, and a list of gifts we could get if we registered for X amount of items.

Yes, there seem to be rewards for what you scan. Scan X dollar amount of particular list of companies and you can get a gift. We received two gifts that we have to mail out for. One for our China selection and the other for our silverware/glasses. The other part of their registry is you can win a prize if people get X amount of dollars for you from a particular company. The last way to receive more stuff is to just scan away and based on the amount bought you can receive a Macy’s giftcard.

So after scanning (some stuff we’re going to take off. it’s just too expensive for what it is), we turned in our list. The nice thing is because of the sale weekend, we scanned a couple items that we bought which gives us credit for those items. It’s like a win win. If we need to buy something at Macys we can add it to the list and then buy it. Boom we get the points for it. So I definitely recommend that route.

We’ll be registering online for Target and Bed, Bath & Beyond. I want to do Crate & Barrel in person because they supposedly do make it a party atmosphere and fun.

Welcome to my Wedding blog

Since wedding planning has taken over my life, I am going to be turning this blog into a blog about my wedding planning experience. For those that don’t know, I’m engaged and we’ve set a wedding date for September, 2010. We are currently toying with two days, and three destinations. It’s driving me nuts. The one good thing is that I already have a dress. The process of that, I’ll be detailing in my next blog.

I feel like I just have to have a place to put down all my wedding planning thoughts and it might be funny to read after the wedding to see how much stress lead up to the final day.

I’m in the hunt for a theme that is appropriate, but hopefully will find that soon. In the meantime, welcome to my wedding blog. ^_^
