It has been one week of using the Fertility Monitor from Clearblue and I thought I would update with how things are going.
The Fertility Monitor itself is supposed to be kept actually out of the bathroom. Due to moisture not being good for it. I keep mine in a shelf by the bed. Basically I wake up and grab a test (the box the monitor sits on) and the monitor and walk to the bathroom. The monitor has you start testing on CD6 your first cycle so it can get a sense of your cycle over all. The first time I used the monitor (on CD6) I peed on the test. This was because I was not doing a Wondfo test so I thought it would be easy to take the test this way. Turns out it’s not. The test was totally invalid and never made a line at all. The monitor just took it to mean a low, but looking at the test, I knew peeing on it didn’t work. For the rest of the week, I have dipped the test for 15 seconds and that seems to be working well. I asked Clearblue about this and they prefer you to test in a cup. Which is NOT what the instructions say. It’s an option in the FAQs but the method it promotes in the instructions is to pee on it. It’s really difficult to do this because the stick itself is TINY.
The next thing I learned is that you shouldn’t turn the monitor on until after you have collected your sample. It doesn’t break the monitor or anything, but it does time out and turn itself off if you aren’t fast. So it’s easier to just wait until after and then do all the test stuff.
The stick itself is very easy to place into the monitor. Right now I’m using wondfo opks to back up the test. I’ll probably only do that for this month and next (if I have to). Most of the week I got low marks, this morning I got a High mark. I think you get several Highs before you get a peak. And supposedly you will always get a peak followed by a peak.
After using the Monitor, I make sure it’s clean and put it back in the shelf by the bed. What I’ll be interested in seeing is how it captures my peak day. With the monitor you only test once using First Morning Urine. In the world of using opks, I test two sometimes three times a day. I tend to get the best positive at night. I should know if I get a positive opk and compare it to my monitor results. The worst case scenario is that my worry is correct and the monitor picks up my peak possible 12 hours after it starts. We’ll see.
So there is my first week with the monitor! We’ll see how it goes. This week is our time to bd so hopefully we’ll get some good quality time in there.
