I know there is a movement that children under two should not get any screen time. I am that mom that said no way am I going to let my child watch tv or use electronics early on. Fast forward two years and there is almost no preventing the use of the iPhone or watching an hour of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.
I have dealt with the “mom guilt” by explaining that sometimes she needs the time to just relax and watch. Especially when she’s not feeling well. Sometimes it’s cause I’m not feeling well or awake yet and need the time to catch up. This was especially true when I had body pain in the morning.
I limit her time on any device or with the television because it’s not something I want her on very often. When she does have access, I take great strides to make sure it has educational aspects to it. It can be incredibly difficult to find apps that are good quality. Especially on Android platform. That is why I LOVE the apps listed in the video below. I would say this group of apps are great for ages 1-2.5.
Here is a list of the apps mentioned in the video:
While pumpkin loves these apps, I am now in the hunt for apps that challenge her. She’s saying her ABC’s and counting and I want to find apps that enforce that learning. My next video group of apps will be apps that challenge her. We’ll be focusing on counting and sight words. We also have a feature of a new on-line learning program for toddlers! Very exciting!
