We all know that reading to your babies is important. It’s part of spending time together and getting them to learn words and concepts. We do a lot of reading here and I was incredibly lucky that Pumpkin loves books as much as I do. We read every book multiple times to the point that she has most of them memorized. We see daily the impact that early reading has on her.
So when baby number 2 came, I got all the baby board books out and ready to read. The board books are your typical board books pointing out animal names and colors. Nice, but nothing new.
Then came along this series by geek dad,Chris Ferrie. He’s a Quantum Theorist and a dad who wanted to try something new in the space of baby board books. But these are different than your typical board books. Chris breaks down scientific theories in these books and I swear, he does it in a way that I finally understand the concepts! We love Rocket Science for babies where we talk about lift and thrust. My toddler listens along which is great because I love exposing her to science concepts.
There is a series of books including Newtonian Physics, Quantum Physics and General Relativity. Don’t feel bad if some of this still goes over your head. I still don’t understand how mass impacts space in the General Relativity book.
As a geek and a parent that believes in exposing our children to STEM concepts early on, these books are great. They are quick reads with easy to follow illustrations. It’s very simple, but maybe that’s the best way to put these concepts forward. We all love learning about animals and first words, but these Baby University books allow all of us to learn together.
A quick look on Amazon shows that Chris has some additional books coming out – ABCs of Mathematics, ABCs of Science, and ABCs of Physics later this year. Definitely check out his books on Amazon and the Baby University website.
