Joining the ranks of the unemployed

As of Friday, I have joined the ranks of the unemployed. For the past three years I have worked at my “day job” in IT while working on GamingAngels.com at night. The day job came to an end on Friday. The company has decided to outsource IT.

So now I find myself unemployed and thinking about what it is that I want to do. In the meantime what I am doing is keeping a schedule. No late sleeping in for me!

Here is my schedule:
8-10am – upload news and work on GA (answer emails etc)
10-11 am job hunt
11-12 am workout
12-1 lunch
1-3 work on GA
3-4 job hunt
4 and on ..play time. Work on games for GA or Code the new site

I think a schedule is important to keeping myself motivated and not lazy. I already see that I’m going to have to go out and get bagels or something small to eat for breakfast. My tummy is making some interesting noises. lol

I’m also contemplating going back to my coding roots and working on some project ideas I have had. Someone on twitter suggested trying to make an iPhone app. Not a bad idea.

We’ll see where this length of unemployment takes me. I know that I’m going to continuously work on improving myself and my skills. So while my opinions of being unemployed may vary as time goes by. I’m pretty optimistic right now and I love that I’m using this time to learn and better myself.

Tiring day

Last night I attended the Girls In Tech event. It was the first women’s only event for the organization in Los Angeles. So much fun. I met some great women. Unfortunately staying out all night and waking up to be at work for a 7am meeting don’t go together. The day dragged on and on. I fell asleep around 4:30 pm the second I got home. Woke up again at 8pm.  Sleeping all night doesn’t exactly help you to be productive.

Tonight I planned to start to work on the new GA re-design. Arranging what modules we need, what we want to add to the site. I have a lot of ideas as to what we want to offer on GA. The future is so exciting I want it here now, except I don’t seem to have the time to work on it.

Two months ago I won time at BlankSpaces which is basically an open workspace for people to “cowork”.  I think I’ll be using that space to really focus on GA without the distractions available at home.  Part of that time will also be with Julia from GamerVixens to plan future events.

The funny thing about running a gaming website and planning for future events, site re-design and making relationships is that you end up with zero time to play games. I’m going to have to schedule some game time this weekend.

Now it’s time for bed…
